SRS was dreamed up by two Canadian university graduates with a passion for China, and a genuine desire to address the socio-economic inequalities faced by migrant workers and their families in the city of Shanghai. With big dreams, but few resources, Sarah and Stephanie were incredibly grateful to be supported in their project by the PFF Community Leadership Program in its first year, which was administered through the Queen's University International Centre. The PFF Program gives funding to recent graduates of Queen's University to undertake projects in the field of international development. Since beginning in September 2013, the SRS program has now moved to a sustainable partnership model which connects partner schools directly in order to facilitate a lasting connection. So, who exactly are the SRS co-founders?

Our Story:

Sarah Cheng

Stephanie Rudyk

Sarah Cheng, a graduate of Queen’s University, studied Psychology (yes she reads minds!) and Global Development. Growing up between Hong Kong and Canada, she has always been intrigued by different cultures and has a big heart for people. Sarah feels the most alive when she gets the opportunity to serve the community and address social issues in practical ways. Through SRS, she is slowly learning what it truly means to serve others and is trying to figure out how to do it best along with SRS partners. Her dream used to be to become a WNBA player, but now she dreams to venture into every single corner of the world (and the Kingdom beyond!) to be part of a greater cause, and this dream will likely continue through eternity!

Stephanie Rudyk graduated from Queen’s University with a major in political studies and minor in global development. Though Stephanie is fascinated with international affairs around the globe, she has a particular enthusiasm for Chinese politics and development issues, which was sparked during her third year semester abroad at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. Now with the China spark kindled into a full blown flame, she is incredibly excited to be back in Shanghai to work on SRS! In her spare time, Stephanie is a baker, bicycle enthusiast, Canadian folk music fan, and ridiculously tall person. She is from Almonte, Ontario, Canada.
